EnGenius Cordless Phone For VoIP Phone Systems

VoIP 1 Comment on EnGenius Cordless Phone For VoIP Phone Systems 216

The majority of on-premise telephone systems being deployed these days are IP based. IP based systems come in at more attractive price points, offer more features than analog systems, and can integrate with cheaper VoIP (Voice over IP) phone line providers. While all of these things are positive, there is one negative component to IP phone systems; their lack of support for cordless handsets.

Take a look around at IP phone system solutions. Pretty much everything you will find (with very few exceptions) is corded and relies on Ethernet connections. Very few of the manufacturers out there offer cordless handsets. And even when they do, those handsets are often clunky, awkward to use, don’t have much physical range and come with a hefty price tag.

EnGenius offers a cost-effective solution to address this. Their DuraFon 1X system is a base station and cordless phone combination. The base station connects to a free analog extension port on an IP phone system, making it compatible with virtually any traditional phone system as well as any IP based phone system. EnGenius states that the range is “Up to 12 floors in-building penetration; up to 250,000 sq. ft. of facility coverage and up to 3,000 acres of property, open land coverage”. Having deployed these 1X systems in commercial and industrial environments, I can personally attest to their extra-long range. It’s quite impressive actually, and any client I’ve deployed one of these systems for has been equally or more impressed. With the ability to add multiple cordless handsets per base station, it is a very cost effective solution that is simple to deploy, reducing complexity and design requirements.

Wow I am impressed with the range they are getting with these. I guess 900mhz at around a half watt carries better than I thought.
