Great Sites to download programs

In my time in the IT field I have come across some good and bad sites to download programs. Most are filled with virus but then you find sites that know one knows about but have great function. In my wanderings I found a place called www.ninite.com. Its very simple to use and does not push any extra stuff.

Will use Flash as an example. Went to update it and the down loader tried to push McAfee in the download. You have to uncheck the box before you hit install otherwise you have to remove it later. It is the same on a lot of sites.

Ninite is different. You select the programs you want and then click the “Get Installer”. It downloads a tiny installer that you then have to run it. Will then download and install all the programs you selected with out all the junk added, and you don’t have to install them individually. When its all done you might have to restart the system and the process is done.

This place is great right after you have started a computer right out of the box because it has all major Anti Virus, Anti Malware, and office products you use. Plus much more.

If you come across any good sites like this and you would like to share please post in the comments below.

If i get what you said right, in order to download from this site you are getting a piece of software from them. Plz correct me if i’m wrong there. But having to download extra software is the reason i have stopped using many sites that have concentrated software. I prefer to get everything from it’s developers site. This way I have full control of every install I do, and I always keep my eyes open on little checkboxes like the one you mention with Flash and McAfee.

It does not have a special program you have to install. How it works is it has links to all the lastest versions of the programs in its list, and when you hit the check boxes and hit “Get Installer”, it puts all the programs together. Then you have to download that tiny application. You have to tell it to run. I have done it on several pc’s. I have run Avast, Malwarebytes, spybot2.0, and other programs and nothing pops up from it from this site.

With 17 check boxes clicked the installation program I downloaded was 300KB. Run it and it will do the recomended install for your system for every program you selected. It will download and then install them from the developer sites. This laptop is a windows 8 and have gotten all the programs on here from ninite. This system has been up for 9 months after I had to refresh it from the 8.1 fiasco.

I am weary of most of those sites myself. To me the developers sites try to give you more junk then your computer can actually run.
