Current Position of Bill Gates

Everyone knows Bill Gates is the founder of Microsoft, and that he is one of the richest men in the world. He is one of the smartest people in the world and on his SAT’s scored a 1590 out of 1600! He only needed 10 more points and would have made a 100% on the SAT’s. Don’t we all wish we were that smart? It does take a very smart man to create the Mega Empire that is Microsoft.

He decided in January of 2000 to step down as chief executive officer. He made a new role for himself in the company as chief software architect, and he also remained to be chairman of the board. In 2006 he announced to the public that he was going to transition from working at Microsoft from full time to part time. Gates’ reasoning behind this choice was because he wanted to be more active in the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation that he and his wife had created.

The Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, which allows benefactors to see how the money is being spent. Bill Gates said he studied the works of Andrew Carnegie and John D. Rockefeller and drew inspiration from their works when deciding to establish the foundation. The foundation is one of the wealthiest in the world and currently is worth $34.6 billion. Gates said that he plans on donating 95 percent of their wealth to charity.

As of February 2014, Bill Gates is no longer chairman of the board. He has slowly made this transition over time ever since he decided to step down as chief executive officer in January 2000. He still plays a vital role in the company as technology advisor to CEO Satya Nadella. He of course will always have major input on his ideas to the company, but for right now he would like to focus on giving back with his charity. Who can argue with that?
