Old 4 Comments on ALGORITHM – Sigh 48

For those of you who have been following me on, you know that I don’t normally do reviews or commentary on things like movies and TV shows. In all honesty, I don’t even watch much television. Between running my business, spending time with my family, catching up on Eli’s Daily Blob (or whatever he’s calling the new incarnation of his show), and continuing my education, I just don’t have the time. None the less, when I heard about the movie ALGORITHM, I was interested. And since it was being shown online for free a few weeks back, for a period of only 24 hours, I decided to watch it. Can I have those 2 hours of my life back please ?

I was enticed by what this movie was supposed to be about. Many titled it as an “Edward Snowden story”. It looked refreshing. It looked exciting. It looked like it would be a good movie. Unfortunately, it was total junk. The acting mediocre, the story is nothing new (without spoiling it for anyone who might still want to watch it, let’s just say we’ve all heard and seen the “shadowy government department” thing before), and the ending I didn’t quite understand.

I’m not sure why these types of movies, movies about our industry, are either horribly inaccurate (think of the movie Hackers) or completely crap like ALGORITHM. Again, I don’t want to spoil it for anyone who does want to watch it, but suffice it to say, if you miss watching this movie, you aren’t missing much.

I wasn’t too hopeful for the movie… I saw a few minutes of it when another author did a post about it and it seemed about as dry as dirt…

I was to busy to see the movie, at least I didn’t miss much!

I was excited because of the subject matter. I normally enjoy most movies, even ones that aren’t so great (B movies). This is barely better than an F movie…. seriously.

I watched it yesterday and I have to say, I was blown away by how stupid some details were! I see it as 90 minutes of my life wasted! To anyone who knows a thing or two about systems security I would say, don’t bother! But it would be a good thing if people who don’t know watch it and get interested, get to learn and research a few things! I liked the setup, was they were going for, but the execution was poor…
