Yes, you have heard correct. Microsoft has decided that they are going to compete with Google in the Office Cloud arena. By signing up for a free Microsoft Onedrive account you get access to a  robust browser based free version of Microsoft office. This means Outlook, Spread sheets, PowerPoint, Word and One Note for absolutely no cost.  You will also get 15 gigabytes of cloud based storage and a fantastic instant messenger client that will allow you to plug-in your Google or Skype account should you decide you want to chat with your buddies.

One of my prime time computing devices of choice is my Chromebook. Using my Chromebook, I am able to get access to all Microsoft document formats and have an identical Windows experience when editing/creating these documents. All I have to do is log in to my Microsoft OneDrive account.

This could be handy for those times when you receive something that MUST be opened in MS Office.

We generally use Libre Office which works perfectly well in most situations however there are those times when someone sends you a document that LO mangles…

I agree! Normally I will receive a word Document that has comments revisions etc. Based off my past experience, the comments and revisions don’t display quite them same or as nicely as they do on an a Microsoft application. Using One drive I am able to quickly upload and modify as needed. It’s perfect!

Update! Be sure to tell your friends about One Drive by using the “Get more storage” link found in the bottom left corner of the home screen when you sign on. If you do, Microsoft will add more storage to your account! I knowingly put that link in this article and was able to gain 35% more storage space since I posted this article!
