Building Web Apps with WordPress

Did you know you can build web apps such as event managers, directories, classified sites and shopping carts using WordPress?

I was thrilled when I discovered premium themes from Templatic and AppThemes.  See I have a passion, no wait, an Obsession with horses. But I was dissatisfied with the content currently on the web at that time, so I decided to create it.  I wanted to know what was going on in my local horse industry and track all of the horse shows that were closest to me.  So I created a site called London Horse Sports to do just that.  With the Events theme from Templatic I could simply enter the details of a horse show’s date and location and the them auto organizes the info in a nice calendar and map.  Then I can search all the events by month or type to get answers like, which is the closes show to my house :D.

Apparently other people also like the information and started asking me if they could post their stuff they have for sale.  So I found the Classipress theme by AppThemes and setup a free classifieds section that works just like Kijiji or Craigslist.  All I had to do was click a couple check boxes and the site was ready in less then an hour.  BOOYAH!   I am hoping it will be a social media hub in the coming years.  Check it out and let me know what you think. www.LondonHorseSports.com

This was a really useful post for me, I’ve been looking at various “off the shelf” solutions for a client to produce a directory type application.

    Thanks for the tip!
