Tesla 3rd Generation Model, Ford Kills the Fun

Old 1 Comment on Tesla 3rd Generation Model, Ford Kills the Fun 16

Elon Musk has once again spun some disappointing news into a good laugh. The third generation Tesla vehicle was slated to be called the Model E, a name which Ford holds the patent to ( although Ford never actually made a Model E). Having the Model S, the Model E and the Model X would have spelled “SEX” for the Tesla lineup. To quote Musk:

“We had the model S for sedan and X for crossover SUV, then a friend asked what we were going to call the third car … So I said we had the model S and X, we might as well have the E,” Musk told British car magazine Autoexpress, which first reported Model III had been picked for the mass-market car’s name.

Ford, however, had other ideas, and sued Tesla saying it wanted to use the Model E name, the magazine quoted Musk as saying.

“I thought this is crazy, Ford is trying to kill sex! So we’ll have to think of another name,” Musk said. “The new model is going to be called Model 3, we’ll have three bars to represent it and it’ll be S III X!”

Is anyone looking forward to the Model 3, or considering possibly buying one? Tesla has become an Icon of high-tech, and should fit lovely into any sys-admin’s garage at around $40k.

I would love a Tesla car. If I could afford one, and if I was able to recharge the thing. I live in Australia so I don’t think we have many/any charging stations close by. But one day I will own a Tesla car, that for much is certain.
