Are Desktops Dying? No!

When people fear about desktops becoming less and less popular to smaller devices, they don’t actually see what a tablet could do, but it does not fit everyone’s needs. Programmers want a big high-definition screen in front of them and a comfortable keyboard for typing. Even though you can keep your monitor, and output your tablet to it via HDMI and also use luxurious Bluetooth keyboard on almost every tablet,  it is not what everyone finds suitable to their needs.  Some code need mass of user saving to an large HDD or SDD which a tablet can not do easily just yet. We will live at least another 5-10 years before we see external storage come into a tablets native environment.

Also comes into fact about Ethernet ports and other external-device ports.  Most tablets do not have any features implemented to use external devices.  And to use these external devices, requires drivers, which require more memory, then more power to use these devices which these devices have horrible batteries.  A tablet can be a pain to a user who wants to use it as a personal computer, and not everyone does use it for a personal computer. Corporations do have a tough decision, deciding to include every feature on all devices or not. But if they don’t, they will spend more money on networks than they would on embedding more flash memory onto their device.

This subject is a tough one to decide, but if you want the other side of the situation, please check “Are Desktops Dying? Yes!“.

I can not predict the future accurately, only make inceptions of how it may turn out to be. But we the consumers decide the faith.  If we continue to buy/build desktops, they will continue to exist, for corporations to make money. However if sales start to fall, we might see desktops vanish without notice.
