Outlook 2013 asking for account logon credentials every 10 mins

3 weeks ago one of my companies hosted exchange account was upgraded from Exchange 2007 to Exchange 2013. After requesting some DNS additions from the ISP the migration seemed to go perfectly. No downtime, just one “Allow” box for the users to tick and all was good.  However, after a few days 2 users reported that their Client Outlook 2013 (Office 2013 Home & Business) was requesting a username/password about every 10 mins.

To try and resolve, I reset the user account password – no change.

The local profile was removed and recreated – no change

The whole local account was removed – no change

The mailbox and account on the backend was removed and re-created 24 hours later  – no change.

Account was added to my own laptop, the logon/password problem followed proving it was not a local PC issue.

Finally, after a 3rd call to the Service Provider we found that the Autodiscover CNAME DNS record had not been updated correctly by the ISP. My fault for not checking…

Lesson: If using a Hosted Exchange platform check your DNS records , especially if you plan an upgrade.
