Intel’s Next-Gen High Performance Platform Coming in September?

There have been a lot of rumors surrounding the release of Intel’s next-gen “Haswell-E” platform. Recently, a report from the Chinese portal to the VR-Zone blog claims to have leaked documents confirming a September 14th, 2014 release date.  Intel official slides show that the platform is coming in 2H 2014.  So while we know that platform is basically ready, with multiple devices running the  new platform at Computex. we will still have to wait and see to confirm its validity.

Haswell-E will bring Intel’s new X99 chipset, replacing the now ageing X79 chipset. Along with this comes the updated Haswell architecture, 8-core CPU support (up from 6 with Ivybridge-E), DDR4, and an updated PCH.

With that, we should see some super fast workstations coming before the Holiday season. With the rise in PC gaming and decline of consoles, this could impact how you do your holiday shopping for your geek.

At first blush this seems like an insane amount of power, but… I wonder what you would need to run games at 8K resolution?
