I’m guessing most of you know TeamViewer, but how many of you heard or used Ammyy Admin? Not many, and it’s too bad.

Ammyy is a very easy to use remote connection software, for both operator and client.

So how does it work?

It’s very similar to TeamViewer. Once the Ammyy software is open, it connects to the Ammyy servers and receives an ID.
As the operator, all you need is that ID, which you enter in your end of Ammyy software.
After the initial connection, the user gets a prompt asking for his permission to allow the remote connection. The user can reject, accept it for one time or select to remember the answer (it saves the operator’s ID as Allowed or Rejected). That’s a great feature since it allows future access without the need to manually allow each time.

Pros:

  • No installation needed.
  • Very fast and easy to use.
  • A very light program (less then 1 Mb)
  • Can be run as a service.
  • Can be used to transfer files.
  • Can save IDs in a contact book for faster access.
  • Supports voice chat (I didn’t use this feature so I can’t testify to how well it works).
  • It’s free for non-commercial use.

Cons:

  • Only supports Windows systems (I tried to run it in Ubuntu using wine, but it crashed.)
  • Needs an internet connection (won’t work if you try to connect from a local network without internet access).
