Earlier this year Vimeo announced plans to invest $10 Million in to licensing original content for it’s service Vimeo on Demand. The critically acclaimed web show “High Maintenance” is one of the first announced to be included in this deal. The series was developed by couple Ben Sinclair and Katja Blichfield, with producer Russell Gregory.

To quote the official press release:

“…follows a nameless cannabis dealer (Sinclair) as he delivers his product to clients with neuroses as diverse as the city they live in.”

“We’re all huge fans of High Maintenance and couldn’t be happier to make our first original programming investment in a show that’s developed organically on Vimeo,” said Kerry Trainor, CEO, Vimeo.”

This marks an interesting transition for Vimeo as it begins to shift to a Netflix style distribution system, funding independent film-makers and giving them full creative control.  It is not known whether or not the series will continue to be free or if Vimeo will turn to a pay for access subscription model.

The show originally aired in 2013 with 13 episodes, Vimeo will be funding another 6 episodes set to release before the end of 2014.
