Keeper review

For the past decade, I’ve been keeping all my passwords in a program called “Password Corral” ( It uses a single user name and password to enter the software, which stores the user names, passwords and web addresses of as many sites as I need. It featured Blowfish or Diamond2 encryption. Overall, it worked great, I love the software. Unfortunately, in this day and age, I need access to my password list when I’m on the road, or from a mobile device (my smartphone). So, off I went in search of a cloud-based solution.

I tried a few different products and found many that I didn’t like. Lastpass for example, came highly recommended in reviews, but it wasn’t really all that great. Then I came across Keeper ( They offered the best solution for my needs. An Android app that works on Galaxy smartphones, a Windows application for my laptop and desktop, and direct web site access. In addition, they offer 256-bit AES encryption and two-factor authentication. Another nice feature is being able to share certain entries with other Keeper users. In my scenario, I can share my work credentials with my staff, if I want to.

Now I know what you’re going to say: but Martin, you always talk about the security worry of cloud based solutions! Yes, this is true. So what I’ve done is when I enter my password into Keeper, I leave out the last 5 digits (which I have made the same on all my passwords). I know what these digits are in my head, but they’re not entered into Keeper. This way, if someone compromises Keeper’s data, they won’t have my full password(s) and won’t be able to log into my accounts. This is one way to further protect yourself from the security risks of cloud based services.

Keeper is a great password storing service that I’ve been using for several months and have been very happy with. It has a very reasonable price point, and it just works, which is what I like the most about it.
