Desktops, laptops, tablets, smartphones, and even smart watches. In this age we are surrounded by screens. Have you ever noticed how people texting at night have that eerie blue glow, or that looking at your smartphone at 6 am blinds you? This is because the blue light given off by all screens screens interrupts the natural pattern that our eyes are engineered to be used to (or evolved, whatever tickles your fancy). Sun in the day, dark in the night, simple, right? But how many times have you woken up in the middle of the night, and checked your Twitter or your Facebook or your email for a few minutes? Or been on your computer after sunset? That is almost guaranteed.

To cut a long story short, night time exposure to blue light hurts your brain and can affect your sleep (read the research here).

If you can relate to this, or even if you can’t, I recommend that you download f.lux for your Windows, Mac, Linux or IOS device. There is a copycat version, called “Twilight” for Android that can be found here. It is worth noting that F.lux for IOS only runs on jail broken devices. F.lux removes all of the blue light from your screen, at the right times depending on where you are, the season that you are in etc. Don’t worry, there is a very neat “movie mode” function that allows you to disable the software for 1 hour, or until the next sunrise if you want.
